Founder & President

Ling King

An out-and-out sugarholic with a peculiar obsession with lemons, currently in an addictive relationship with chocolate lava cake (plus vanilla ice cream, of course).

Sure, it’s not far off to call me a weirdo, but that didn’t stop me from founding Beyond Horizon Youth Volunteers. I have always been drawn to all kinds of matters related to fairness (comes from being a younger sibling, I guess). “Not fair!” was one of the first phrases I blurted out as a babbling toddler. Soon enough, what started as a fixation about absolute equality with my brother grew into a drive to help others.

As we gather more and more volunteers and gain increasing momentum, Beyond Horizon is now an embodiment of a collective effort to bring better opportunities to children in rural Taiwan.

Executive Director

Christine Lan

Hello! I’m Christine Lan, a senior at Pacific American School. With a hope to make a difference for others, I joined the big family of Beyond Horizon in tenth grade. I love interacting with these innocent individuals, and I want to contribute to creating a world where they can thrive. Beyond Horizon gives me the chance to witness their growth and be a part of their journey. Thus, I took a role in the executive board, aiming to contribute more. Setting aside all professional matters, I love watching YouTube, listening to music (I love K-pop&pop songs <3), playing the flute, and doing a lot more things in my free time!

Deputy Executive Director

Zoe Lin

Hey!!! I’m Zoe Lin, currently a rising senior at Kang Chiao International School. I love painting, trying new foods, and taking walks. I joined Beyond Horizon as an 8th grader, and now it's my 5th year with this wonderful organization! I remember how my students, who were once shy and reserved, grew more eager to speak and share moments in their lives with me. Seeing their progress and growth has brought me immense joy and fulfillment. Over the years, I've taken on roles as secretary and now as vice president. In the future, I hope to continue managing and promoting Beyond Horizon to provide an even better learning environment for the children!

Executive Secretaries

  • Ryan

Hi! I am Ryan, a Kang Chiao International School student in the 11th grade. Since 9th grade, I have been passionate about rural education and wanted to contribute through concrete actions. Thanks to my sister's introduction, I joined Beyond Horizon and am now entering my third year of service! My current service location is Miaoli Dashan School, where the children are eager and curious to learn English. Throughout this volunteering journey, I have learned how to teach younger students, developed skills in interacting with children, and gained the ability to explain complex English concepts simply and understandably. In the coming semester, I hope to serve and meet with even more students, helping them gain equal educational opportunities and grow healthy and happy.

  • Amber

Hiii, I'm Amber from Kang Chiao international school Linkou Campus. As a new convener of the volunteer service for KCISLK, I'm currently working as the only convener for our school. Travelling has always been one of the things I found pleasure in. Travelling to different places helps me gain experience with the world outside of school and get in touch with all the different cultures. This is also why l'm delighted to be part of Beyond Horizon, where I can share my experiences and knowledge of foreign cultures and languages with the ones in need. I look forward to a great time participating as one of the coordinators of Beyond Horizon!

  • Mia

I’m Mia Chen, a sophomore at Kang Chiao International School Linkou Campus. My story begins when I first transferred from a public elementary school to a private school. I immediately noticed the stark difference between my English ability and that of my peers who had been studying in private schools. Recognizing the advantages I now had access to, I became determined to help others who lack the resources and opportunities to learn English. In eighth grade, I was encouraged by my homeroom teacher to serve as a volunteer in Beyond Horizon, assisting children in the rural areas of Taiwan in their educational journeys. This year, I’m honored to serve as the secretary of Beyond Horizon. It’s been incredibly rewarding to see the impact of our work and actively contribute to supporting and empowering students across Taiwan.

  • Keira

Hi! I am Keira, a 12th grade student at Pacific American School. I like to watch movies, listen to music, go shopping, and go to coffee shops during my leisure time. After joining Beyond Horizon, I have fallen in love with interacting and communicating with children during after school English classes. I feel very accomplished, proud, and joyful of them when the kids listen attentively to the class and learn a bit more English. I am honored to be serving as the secretary of BH this year and will devote more effort to distributing this warm learning resource to children!
