Xian Xi Academy

Xian Xi Elementary school has been part of the Beyond Horizon program ever since we were established. Initially, Taipei American School began serving Xian Xi until Wellington College International Shanghai volunteered their service. We especially want to thank our coordinator from Wellington for swiftly recruiting and managing volunteers, keeping our service uninterrupted.

Words from our volunteers

“I’ve always had a passion for teaching, so when Nick asked me if I was interested in tutoring English I said yes without a second thought. It’s only been a few lessons, however it still makes me so happy when I see that my student is learning and recalling a few more vocabularies. And even though our lessons are remote and I don’t get to see my student in person, teaching her has really been the highlights of my weeks.”

— Zoe Wang

“Tutor volunteering has really challenged my communication skills, English being a language I speak fluently I never thought how I would explain and teach it to someone who this is not the case for. It was an amazing experience, the kid I had was a delight and helping them grow is very fulfilling.”

— Jeremy Chan

“At first, the reason why I volunteered for the tutoring program is to complete my CAS. But after a few sessions of tutoring, chemistry started to grow between me and my tutee. I found the true significance of this program, which is to have the opportunity to help others with the limited power I have. I felt a sense of pride whenever my tutee learned something I taught.”
